Catholic Social Teaching
At St. Joseph's, we are deeply committed to living out the values of Catholic Social Teaching (CST) in all aspects of our school life. We use the Caritas Westminster: Rooted in Love framework as the foundation for our approach to CST. This framework helps us inspire and guide our pupils and staff in building a just, compassionate and inclusive community.
The six core principles of Rooted in Love are:
- Care for Creation – We honour God by protecting and caring for His creation.
- Community and Participation – God calls each of us to contribute to the good of others.
- Dignity of Workers – Every worker has the right to be treated with fairness and respect.
- Human Dignity – Every person is made in God’s image and should be treated with love and respect.
- Preferential Option for the Poor – Jesus calls us to care for the poor and vulnerable, giving them special attention.
- Solidarity and Peace – We should all work together to bring peace and harmony to our communities.
These principles guide our mission to educate not only the mind but also the heart, encouraging our children to live out the Gospel message of love, service and justice in the world.

2025 Harvest Collection
In October, we supported the local Islington food banks through our annual Harvest Collection. During this time, more local families were in need than ever before, and our school community came together to provide essential items to those who needed them most.

Each year group donated specific items to ensure a wide range of supplies:
- Little Gems & Opals: Tinned meat and fish (tuna, salmon, corned beef, etc.)
- Nursery: Tinned fruit and vegetables (pear, orange, pineapple, peaches, mixed vegetables, beans, corn, peas, carrots, tomatoes)
- Reception: Biscuits, crackers, cereal bars
- Year 1: Dried rice, grains, and noodles
- Year 2: Breakfast cereals and porridge
- Year 3: Tea bags, coffee, sugar, long-life milk
- Year 4: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo
- Year 5: Cooking oil and sauces
- Year 6: Honey, jam, and marmalade
We are grateful to everyone who contributed. Thank you to our school community for helping to make a difference this Harvest season!
